C++ Developer (PostgreSQL experience)

Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine

Entry Level

About the project:

The client is a card transaction processing company that provides services to banks and other state or commercial companies within Ukraine and abroad. The project offers payment solutions: money transfers, POS services, ATM monitoring services, etc. The system accepts payments by payment cards and e-wallets and provides convenient tools for the development of e-commerce and A2A. Whatever business it is: online, offline, or on a mobile phone, launch an online store, a mobile application, issue an invoice, or arrange for subscription services - the platform will help with any task. In addition, the team works on separate services for Merchant control, simplified flows to process payments, etc.

The project will start from the first stage - developing/adjusting Red Hat packages to the client's infrastructure.

The ideal candidate must bridge the gap between low-level systems programming, database internals, and enterprise packaging under Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) ecosystems.

Time engagement: Part-time contractor | Up to 3 hours/day |

Requirements:

  • 1+ year of experience with C / C++ Debugging: ability to read, understand, and debug C source code used in PostgreSQL extensions;
  • PostgreSQL Knowledge: Thorough understanding of PostgreSQL core internals, including shared memory architecture, background workers (BGW), the query planner/optimizer, and process signals;
  • PL/pgSQL: Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL skills to maintain procedure-based tools like pg_profile;
  • Intermediate level of English.

Nice to have:

  • Proficiency with debugging tools (gdb, valgrind, strace) to diagnose memory leaks, segfaults, and deadlocks;
  • Experience with RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) architecture, toolchains (gcc, make), and system libraries (glibc);
  • Experience setting up, signing, and managing private RPM repositories;
  • Patching & Upstream: Competence in backporting code, writing custom software patches (.patch), and collaborating with upstream open-source communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and package a critical suite of open-source PostgreSQL extensions (pg_hint_plan, pg_cron, pg_stat_kcache, pg_wait_sampling, pg_profile, pgmail, and postgres_exporter);
  • Provide Level 3 production support for PostgreSQL extension issues in a live environment;
  • Develop/adjust Red Hat packages to fit the client's infrastructure;
  • Troubleshoot and debug PG extensions, diagnosing issues at the systems and database internals level;
  • Collaborate with upstream open-source communities on patches and fixes.
